We sat our almost German asses in the Megane and aimed for the Czech capital, Prague. We looked forward to driving on the autobahn and stopping by a medieval city called Meissen. However, driving to Prague was not going to be a walk in the park!
Dice picked the longest straw this time. Nice roads and 200 km/h at one point was a nice experience for the not so urban boy. Driving from Berlin to Meissen was no problem at all.
Meissen is a beautiful little town. It was founded over 1000 years ago, and many old buildings still stand proudly there. The castle and church looked awesome. The town had narrow streets and small shops where you could get a small meal, or buy some drawings and souvenirs.
We sat down at a bakery for a quick meal. A very cute german girl served us coffee
and cookies as the rain was pouring down outside. As soon as the water
stopped flowing from above, we went back to the car.
Fire was going for
Prague. He had no idea what kind of trouble he was getting into..
Meissen church: Those towers were huge! We had to walk halfway down he street to keep Dice from looking like a dwarf in comparison..
Meissen: Looking down on the beautiful city from the medieval castle on the hill.
Getting out of Meissen was a hell of a lot harder than getting into it. At one point we wanted to strangle the GPS lady! After
an hour of seemingly random driving through the city, hitting roadblocks and pedestrian-only streets, pure manly instinct told us we should drive out of the town in a straight line. The instinct was right! If right is getting onto a really narrow country road with 30 km/h speed limits. Doh!
This was when we changed the voice in the GPS, and got a new, english-speaking GPS lady. After
another hour on these awful roads the new GPS lady spoke to us: "Stationary traffic ahead. Plan a detour?" We planned the detour to get out of the jam. Which we didn't, we hit it right in the arse. We finally found the autobahn, but it was jammed! Fire went absolutely nuts, his head was boiling and hot steam was coming out of his ears! We had to park the car and take a break.
We decided to check what it looked like without the roof. What can we say? It looks GREAT! We waited for
yet another hour before we got onto the Autobahn again, and drove the last kilometers with good road this trip. Unfortunately for Fire, Dice was now behind the wheel again. Fire was just not going to get to drive on the Autobahn this time. The trip on the Autobahn lasted only for ten minutes before we ended at McDonald's outside Dresden for coffee and ice-cream.
The Megane looks especially great with Dice behind the wheel! :-)
Fire eventually got us all the way to Prague. The GPS lady was extremely helpful there, driving into Prague was a breeze. We parked the car in a residential area and walked to the hostel.
Dices travelling tip:
If you get near a modern car with your keys in your pocket, it will open without you having to push the open button on the key. This explains why the trunk just won't stay locked! Knowing this will prevent you from looking like an absolute idiot standing at a gas station, scratching your heads, opening and closing the trunk like 40 times in 10 minutes..
