Five countries in two days!
Leaving the Dutch capital, and driving to Switzerland is a long trip. We had to plan one night in a really small state before we got to Interlaken in the Alps. The small country was actually really cool!
The autobahn in Holland is not as smooth as the one in Germany. But we are starting to get used to the systems on these high speed roads, so the way to Belgium was quite painless. We saw cities like Eindhoven and Maastrich on our way. The border crossings between most of the countries in Europe are unnoticeable. a blue sign with a country name on it. Passing from Holland to Belgium is one of these. In Belgium we saw the city of Liege, and it looked really nice. We have to consider a long stop there one time.

The main impression of driving through Holland is that it's really flat. Belgium is a bit more unflat (It really is the best term). Driving in these countries is a little bit boring, as you can't really see much besides grass, and a few petrol stations.

In the end we finally got to Luxembourg. It was a suitable drive that took us about 4 and a half hours. The hilly Luxembourg proved from the start that it is a small country with few inhabitants. There aren't many possibilities to have a rest stop there, so do it when you can!

This bridge was truly impressive. The span is so wide, we couldn't imagine how on Earth they managed to build it way back then.

We got into the hotel about 6 pm, and most of the shops were closed, so we had to just go for a stroll around in the city. We walked through the beautiful park that was in one of the chasms in the city. Small houses was down there also with small herb gardens. Lot's of people was jogging on the trails there, Luxembourg really seems like a country for joggers. After a while we saw this huge bridge far above us. This is actually the largest bridge in the world made of natural stones. It looked impressive for sure.

We sat down in a small city square by a fountain. There we listened to a country musician for a while. He was actually quite good, so we threw some coins to him and walked on towards the real sight of the day: The old city of Luxembourg, which is on UNESCO's world heritage list. Protected by tall city walls and great chasms, it used to be an almost impossible target for enemies. It is known as the strongest fortress in Europe, only second to Gibraltar. It really looked stunning down in the chasm, with the walls on the hills around. There were some buildings down there. Just enough for a small community to survive a long siege.

Get out of the way, Fire! I'm trying to take a picture of Luxembourg's old town!

We got a good long sleep in Luxembourg, which was good after our exhausting 4-day party. the day after we drive the last part through France and into Switzerland. In two days we had been into five countries. The landscape in the different countries was also very different! Now we will see what we can do in the small Switzerland city of Interlaken, the city of backpackers, extreme sports and spectacular mountains!

Dice's traveling tip:
Get it done while you can! If you go past a restaurant, get dinner if you're hungry. If you go past a petrol station, get petrol if you're low. Because the things you need are never there when you really really need them! When you're really hungry, there's never a restaurant in sight! And then Fire gets cranky, and unleashes hell onto everyone around him!

Liege you say, I`m a sucker for small pearls :-) Luxembourg sounds incredibly cute, like Legoland 1/1 scale! Good traveling tips for future roadtrips. I just might have to go on one some day, in 17-18 years time when the kid grows up :-p
Polvotten
Polvotten: Just take the kid with you, you know like my parent did when my brother was like a 1 year old. Still good fun! Or, if you decide to wait, we can do our 40-year-old-crisis together! ;-)
Fire
