Today we decided to climb the mountains near the fabulous Lysefjord in southwestern Norway. We began the trip with a 2-hour uphill hike, then we arrived at the spectacular view from the Kjerag cliffs. We had great fun climbing onto the rock (see below) and getting as close as we dared to the edge of the 1000 meter cliff!
I climbed onto the outermost edge of the cliff, and brought my cemera
with me. I recorded a short video too, which can be seen above. The
audio is a bit weak, but my next video should have subtitles.
The mountains near Kjerag are amazing. Check out that waterfall, disappearing into mist as it falls down the edge of that cliff!
Just on the tip of the mountain there is a small rock called "Kjeragsbolten". It's lodged between the walls of a very deep chasm. From this rock you can look hundreds of meters straight down both both in front of and behind you. Getting on the rock itself is not a problem, but the narrow path to the rock (on the left in the picture) has a dangerous corner with only about a foot of width, and a straight vertical drop of hundreds of meters just below. With no railings or security of any kind, this path is quite a challenge!
I was first onto the rock, this is an image of me, waving at the camera!
