Prague: We heard it was a beautiful city
Words like "It's the most beautiful town in the world!" sang in the back of our heads as we entered the legendary city of Prague. This was going to be a cultural experience for our lives! But the beer was so cheap, and the girls were so beautiful..
After a tricky trip from Berlin, we entered Prague around 9:30 PM at Wednesday. The GPS lady told us where our hostel was, and we parked our Megane in a quiet street a couple blocks away from the hostel. Hostel Elf was our goal, famous for it's social atmosphere.

We started drinking beer already the first night. Three Americans and a couple of Danish kids wanted us to join them for a drinking game. Dice was really tired, so he went to bed at 1:00, Fire stayed up drinking with the Danish and American guys all night, and hung out with some Irish girls before hitting the bed at 4:30.

Next day Dice had two walks through Old town in Prague, also called Starë Mesto. The second time, Fire had got awake enough to join him. We got to know most of the places in Old town. Enough to find our way to and from the hostel. A new pair of shoes was bought by Dice. He really should reduce his shoe spending! We got a little feeling of the stunning Old Town, but we probably should have spent more time there..

At evening the drinking started again. We paid 20 CZK for each beer, that's a bit more than half a Euro, and we bought a lot! The social reputation of Elf was not overrated. We met a lot of really nice people there, and it was a great vibe around the table at the hostel. Six of us finally got ourself to a bar at 0300, it was kinda hard to leave the hostel, we really had fun there. But anyway, we headed out in the end: Fire, Dice, American and Irish Tom,  Anders and Tim.

We got to a bar called M1, and it was really cool. And still open at almost 4 AM on a Thursday night. A local girl also craved some "I'm so sad because my boyfriend left me" -cuddling. We bought her a drink, and left her to herself. Drinks, beer and vodka shots where consumed, and everyone was having a great time. Fire had a chat with the manager, and got a recommendation for a cool club a few blocks away which would be open until 10 AM, he would meet us there around 7. The clock was about 0500 and Dice and Tom had already gone home separately, but the 4 others were still going strong.

But then bad luck hit us once again. Tim discovered that his wallet was gone! He had just lost his money, ID etc, and was drunk, devastated, and did not know what to do. We got him into a cab, and went back to the hostel. Anders did a terrific job keeping his head cool and getting everyone home safely. I talked to Tim today, he was heading to the embassy, and it seemed he will be alright.

Everyone else got home before Dice. He got lost... We got to bed at around 07:00. And got up sometime before 1100 to change room. Next day was tired. We mostly slept and played some Munchkin, and talked to the girls at the Hostel.

Tomorrow we're heading for Vienna. Not to a hostel this time, it's a quiet guesthouse. It might be a different experience, but we'd really like to relax a bit.

Facts about Prague:

People:
It was hard to get in touch with locals. They were too bad in English to be of any help in needy situations. Dice got himself a new pair of shoes without sharing a word with the salesman. Communication went through hand movements. The backpackers were awesome though. Gotta love them.

The food:
We didn't have a single bad meal there. Pizza at green tomato, sandwich at Mona Lisa and Chinese food at a quiet restaurant was really amazing. It's hard to find a bakery if you just want a small snack. Food is cheap and good. Beer is cheaper and better.

The place:
Not as big as Berlin. But still a million people live there. Tight streets, old beautiful buildings and a railway that was elevated above the road was easy to see. The city are on it's way to become a tourist town, and it's beginning to look like that in some areas. Lot's of restaurants and stores was in the main streets.  It's not expensive there, you generally get a lot for your money, but the locals don't speak english well at all.

The girls:
Czech girls are beautiful. At this area the Czech annihilate the Germans. The girls at the hostel were extremely good looking, and easy to talk with.

Dice is in our room, using his really big tool.

Dice's travelling tip:
If you don't now where you are at 06:00 in the morning. Stop and look at your map instead of strolling around. Find out where you are and where you're heading. If you don't do this, but just take your chances, you might end up in the opposite direction of what you intended. The way home will be 3 times as long, and your feet will hurt like hell in the morning.

Tip nr. 2:
Keep control of your keys. If you don't, be sure to have big enough tools to break things that is between you and stuff you really need.

I have a theory that hostels are the best places in the world to meet REAL people. Everyone`s nice, open and respectful to each other and are generally interested in getting to know people. No matter where you come from. Your experiences supports this I see :-) Hostels are the best! I just remembered that I have an excellent bacpackermap of Prague from Hostel Cosmos, too bad I forgot to give it to you guys (although you seem to be managing ;-) Nice touch posting pictures of the hostelpeople!

*Andreas: Thanks, we have great fun making it too! :-) We just arrived in Vienna now, so we'll start drinking some local beer for you any moment now!

*Polvotten: I agree, hostels generally contain good people, and everyone is very friendly and interested in meeting and getting to know you. I have nice memories from Cosmos, our days there were great. We should go back there one day, and stay a while longer this time! :-)
Fire
*Asfrith: I know what you mean. I'll probably go back this exact route several times more, these cities have so much to offer! We have a cunning plan of having an extremely exiting time here in Vienna, so check back in a few days for the latest developments. :-)
